2 Billion benefits

why cycling is good for people & planet

The best resource I’ve come across on this topic is Cycling for Sustainable Cities, a wonderful book written by John Pucher, Ralph Buehler and several other global heavy-weights of bicycle research. In it, they show with scientific rigor that the public health benefits of cycling (heart health, mental health) outweigh the impacts from cycling accidents. They show the benefits bikes have brought to city-dwellers from New York to London to Paris by reducing congestion and improving air quality. They show the energy and CO2 emission benefits of bikes and eBikes are a fraction of vehicles.  Highly recommend watching this 1 hour webinar from the authors, hosted by the London Cycling Campaign, to get a taste of the key results in their own words & charts.
